September is a perfect time to highlight two of our loveliest designs, with their rich autumn colours! The autumn season is wonderful inspiration for artists and designers. Subtle shades of brown, vibrant reds, oranges and golden yellows mix together against misty grey backgrounds. For the fashion and textile industry, it is a time of new style statements. Your home and your wardrobe can have a vibrant new look with these gorgeous autumn colours!
‘Toffee Apple‘ is the epitome of autumn colour. It is a textile pattern originally designed in the 1970s, and the example we have was silk screen printed in one colour onto tan textured paper. Then the grey ink outlines were hand-coloured with the new fine-line marker pens that were introduced in the 1970s. Scarlet, orange and tawny brown hoops evoke a rich crop of autumn berries, while the grey outlines and pale tan background look like fronds of misty bracken. ‘Toffee Apple’ was originally intended to be silk screen printed on warm fabric such as Viyella or cotton flannel. But it is now available from Goldcrest Gallery as a stunning autumn coloured A4 fine art print, in pigment inks on archival paper. A new canvas print of this attractive design will shortly be obtainable in sizes 8″ and 10″ square.
Our original vintage textile design, ‘Trellis’, was hand painted in gouache on cartridge paper and dates from the 1970s. A black framework of floral motifs with four petals was laid over random two-tone brown washes. This gives a striking effect of light and shade viewed through a lattice window. The palest tan colour seems like dappled sunshine, while the darker taupe gives the appearance of breezy patches of shade. There are small diamond shapes which seem to glow against the black lattice with a delicate twinkling effect. This lovely and unusual fabric design has now been reproduced as a 5″ square notecard and it will also soon be available as one of our new range of coaster sets.
Why not bring some gorgeous autumn colours into your home with our beautiful designs!
