If you haven’t read ‘Bed & Breakfast’, you’re missing a treat! This amusing and quirky story makes even the grown ups chuckle. Pre-school children and early readers love the comic rhyme and the amusing details in the illustrations.
Ma’s Impromptu Bed & Breakfast
The story begins one evening, when Ma is about to take her four children up to bed. At that moment, a large party of school children and their teacher arrive at the front door. Inexplicably, they expect Ma to put them up for the night! As she does not have enough beds for so many, Ma has to improvise.
How she finds accommodation for them all, and what happens in the morning, is a hilarious tale. Not only is the rhyming text richly humorous, but the illustrations also sparkle with comic touches. From Ma’s bawling baby to the school children’s acutely observed pranks, there are so many amusing moments to absorb the reader’s interest on every page.
Kind-Hearted Ma
Ma herself is a compelling central character as she copes single-handedly with her family, home and a horde of unknown visitors. At the start of the book, she has managed to get her four lively children ready for bed, despite perpetual howling protests from the youngest one. Yet Ma is still able to take pity on the exhausted youngsters and invite them in, even though she knows nothing about them. No money changes hands in this story – Ma provides a refuge out of her own resources, including breakfast. There is only Ma herself to make up beds and cook for everyone. And when the truth is revealed, there are no reproaches from her, either. Even so, Ma is very unlikely to agree to her little daughter’s comical request at the very end of the story!
Choose ‘Bed & Breakfast’ for a fun, laugh-out-loud story time, and enjoy a close look at all the witty illustrations. This unusual book will quickly become a favourite.
